Dawn and Allen Davies are the owners of the vineyard. In a previous life Allen Davies was a solicitor who practiced in Eastwood for 44 years. Both Dawn and Allen liked wine and horticulture and by marrying the two together decided on viticulture and so they planted their vineyard in Exeter in 1998.
They believe in the old but true saying “Good wine is made in the vineyard”. They do all the viticulture work themselves and strive to ensure that only the best grapes are produced. Their consistency and eye for perfection has resulted in gold medal winning wines that have made wine lovers sit up and take notice..
They tend the vines personally and all grapes are pruned and picked by hand and carefully sorted to ensure that only the best grapes are taken to the winery for processing. Since the beginning their motto has always been “when only the best will do”.
Because they perform all the vineyard work personally they have a low cost base and are able to sell their wines at very reasonable prices. They believe that their wines are the best value in the Highlands.
The vineyard is named Sallys Corner Wines after the road by the same name in which the property is located and although the name implies otherwise the vineyard is not situated on a corner. The area known as Sallys Corner was taken from a Sally who lived here in the Cobb and Co days of the mid 1850’s and had a convenience store at the intersection of a road and the then Hume Highway. Sally is an historical figure and well known in this area for her colourful business adventures. Come and see Sally and hear her story. The precise area where Sally carried on her business no longer exists.
They exhibit their wines in wine shows and have won gold medals, numerous silver medals and many bronze medals. A large majority of the wines sold at the cellar door have received medals. They believe that if the wines get a medal at a wine show that is an acknowledgement of the quality of the wines by highly experienced wine judges..
